Innovative Cognitive Enhancement Therapy at Lake Shore Behavioral Health Inc. Receives Foundation Funding

Buffalo, NY – Lake Shore Behavioral Health, Inc. is thrilled to be the recipient of a $77,500 grant from the Patrick P. Lee Foundation to establish a CET (Cognitive Enhancement Therapy) Cleveland™ Program, a state-of-the-art, cognitive remediation model, at Lake Shore's Personalized Recovery Oriented Services (PROS) locations. PROS is a recovery model for individuals with a chronic mental illness involving treatment, support and rehabilitation.

CET Cleveland™ is an evidence-based practice developed by The Center for Cognition and Recovery (CCR) which helps people with schizophrenia and related mental illnesses improve their processing speed, cognition (attention, memory and problem solving), social cognition (ability to interact wisely with others) and increase vocational readiness. A curriculum-based model, CET Cleveland™ is conducted over a 48 week period using specialized cognitive computer exercises, social cognition groups along with individual "coaching" sessions. The grant from the Patrick P. Lee Foundation will assist Lake Shore in purchasing the software and comprehensive training needed to implement the CET Cleveland™ program. " We appreciate the support from the Patrick P. Lee Foundation which allows us to be the first organization in New York State to offer the CET Cleveland™ Program," stated John Flynn, LCSW-R, Director of Treatment Services at Lake Shore Behavioral Health. "The success seen at other CET Cleveland™ sites has convinced us of the value of offering this transformative rehabilitation model to our clients."

The Center for Cognition and Recovery (CCR) is a non-profit endeavor developed by JFSA of Cleveland and PLAN of NE Ohio, Inc. to disseminate CET Cleveland™ to other mental health providers. CCR received the 2011 Science and Service Award from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMSHA) for successful implementation of a recognized evidence-based intervention shown to treat mental illnesses.
