Buffalo Healthy Living Features Lee Foundation Education Grants

Buffalo, NY – The Patrick P. Lee Foundation is pleased to announce $90,000 in professional development grants in mental health and new engineering scholarships. The Lee Foundation, a private foundation based in Buffalo, NY, focuses its investments in two key areas – Mental Health and Education.

The Lee Foundation seeks to increase the number of mental health professionals and provide educational opportunities for those currently in the field.  To address the latter, the Lee Foundation created a Professional Development Grant Program to support training and continuing education for front-line staff.

“Ensuring Western New York has a strong mental health workforce is a top priority for the Lee Foundation,” states Jane Mogavero, executive director.  “We are investing in scholarships to grow the number of practitioners in the region but also want to provide educational opportunities for those working every day to improve the lives of people with mental health conditions.”

The Lee Foundation awarded eight grants totaling $30,000 through its professional development grant program.  The following are the grant recipients: Buffalo City Mission, Gateway Longview, Homespace Corps, Jericho Road Community Health Center, Lt. Col. Matt Urban Human Services Center of WNY, Mental Health Association of Erie County, Mount St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation, and New Hope CORPS.

In education, the Lee Foundation is committed to growing the number of skilled engineers in the American workforce.  The Foundation currently supports ten engineering scholarships at St. Louis University, Patrick P. Lee’s alma mater.

Starting this fall, the Foundation will fund engineering scholarships at Rochester Institute of Technology and the University of Rochester.  In addition to being from Erie or Niagara Counties, scholarship recipients must demonstrate integrity, leadership and service to his/her community and country.
