NAMI Buffalo & Erie County Awarded $25,000 Grant

Like many mental health agencies, National Alliance on Mental Illness Buffalo and Erie County (NAMI Buffalo) had increased demand for its programs and services during the pandemic. In fact, calls to its HelpLine increased by nearly 50% in 2020.

And, like many nonprofits across the region, NAMI Buffalo experienced a decline in revenue as donations slowed and fundraising events were canceled because of COVID-19 government restrictions. To ensure its critical support of families continued without disruption, the Foundation awarded NAMI Buffalo a $25,000 grant.

Founded in 1984, NAMI Buffalo assists, educates and supports families facing the challenges of serious mental illness and recovery. It offers family support groups and monthly education classes, hosts monthly education meetings, operates the HelpLine, and advocates for improved services for people living with serious mental illness. Started by a few dedicated individuals, the agency now serves more than 550 families each year and its dedicated volunteers logged more than 1,300 hours in 2019.
