Grant Expands Mental Health First Aid Training Program

Compeer Buffalo’s mission is to use the power of volunteer friends to improve the lives of children and adults who are striving for good mental health. One of the services Compeer provides to the community is Mental Health First Aid (MHFA).

Mental Health First Aid is an 8-hour course that teaches participants how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance abuse disorders. The training empowers people to provide initial help and support to someone who might be experiencing a mental health or substance abuse problem.

The Lee Foundation is committed to raising awareness of mental illness, specifically serious mental illness. To achieve this goal, the Foundation supports community education programs including seminars and trainings.

The Foundation awarded Compeer $50,000 to grow their Mental Health First Aid program. The trainings will educate the Western New York Community on mental health, and breakdown the stigma associated with mental health challenges.
